Karl Rabofsky GmbH is a machine manufacturing company and was founded in Berlin-Germany in 1896. Our focus is on the development and production of pleating lines as well as the production of special machines for special applications of our customers.
We deliver our pleating lines to the food, automotive and textile industries as well as to the healthcare system. The most popular products being manufactured by our pleating lines are air filters, airbags, sun blinds and safety bellows. Our filter pleating machines have already been manufactured for almost 60 years and continously maintained for our customers. Approximately 2,500 Rabofsky pleating lines are currently in use worldwide. For this purpose Rabofsky supports a specific service network, which is able to carry out repairs on your machines worldwide.
Rabofsky sees itself as pioneer and technology market leader for pleating solutions. An important strength of our company is to take on new tasks from our customers and transform them into high-quality groundbreaking solutions. Thus Rabofsky is the only supplier in the world for many years to offer a knife pleating machine with a speed of more than 300 pleats per minute. Furthermore Rabofsky is the only supplier worldwide offering by default a knife pleating machine with a working width of 3,200 mm (about 126 inches).
Also we make fully automatic production lines for the volume production of filters. These technical possibilities have significantly affected the performance and quality of our product range. The fundamental idea of our product range is a construction system of intelligent functional modules such as different types of unwinders, pleating machines, cutting systems and temperature treatment units which are available in different working widths. Just to give an example, Rabofsky manufactures provide more than 20 different types of unwinders and six different types of pleating machines.
Every module can be equipped with particular options. By appropriate combinations of modules and options, Rabofsky configures pleating lines which can be tailored to the specific requirements. Currently, we can make available more than 15,000 different configurations from a simple pleating machine up to a multifunctional pleating system with electronic control.

Knife Pleating Machines
Many of our customers know: Rabofsky manufactures knife pleaters as a passion to perform! Otherwise, there is no explication why a company is considered by its customers as the market leader over decades and sets constantly technical benchmarks with its developments in this business. These circumstances have considerable benefits for our customers:
There is no vendor of pleating machines who offers so many different models of knife pleaters than Rabofsky. Additional to the older models R88, R188, R178 and R178S which we also support technically, Rabofsky offers a very cost efficient cam-driven model – the Pleatworker – as well as three servo-driven, CNC-controlled knife pleaters graded in price: The Pleat Assistant, the Pleatmaster and the High Speed Pleater.
This wide choice of machines allows for exact adaptation of the desired system solution to the budget and technical requirements of our customers. There is no other manufacturer of pleating machines in the world who has so many operating knife pleaters in the market like Rabofsky.
The new Rotary Worker is a semi-electronic rotary pleating machine and has three servo drives in the basic version. Depending on the implementation of the scoring rollers the Rotary Worker is able to produce pleats either with a constant height and a certain fix distance (”pleat lock”) or with different heights.
The Rotary Worker can restore different pleat heights ”at the push of the button” like the Pleat Assistant, provided that the necessary types of scoring rollers are used.
By adding peripheral components and optional accessories to a pleating machine, a customized pleating line matched to the respective application is set up. The peripheral components can be split up into four categories, namely unwinding units, longitudinal cutters, systems for thermal conditioning and cross cutters. Depending on the application the pleating line is configured for, special equipment versions are available for each category. Therefore the unwinders for production of hydraulic filters and those for production of sun blinds have a completely different design. In the majority of cases, the production of hydraulic filters is done using several small-sized and lightweight material rolls (weight often less than 50 kg), whereas production of sun blinds often requires heavy-duty unwinders for material rolls with high diameters and sometimes weights exceeding 1,000 kg.
Consequently, these unwinders need to satisfy different requirements. During hydraulic filter production, new material rolls are loaded quite often, thus making necessary a quick and precise exchange. Talking about the unwinder for heavy sunblind material rolls, a principal demand in order to avoid the adverse effect of ”washboard patterns” is to unwind the first meters of textile in the same smooth way like the final ones to produce a perfect pleat pack.
Similar to these unwinding systems just cited as an example for two different applications, Rabofsky has developed for various branches many special solutions even for the other categories. In this context, also the location where to realize a specific function within the line may vary. An example, it is advantageous for some media to perform a longitudinal cutting before pleating, whereas it is recommended for other applications to be carried out after pleating. Also the same applies for thermal conditioning of the materials.
Automatic Production Lines
Automatic production lines are combinations of particular modules, configured by Rabofsky with special characteristics and designed for production of specific filter products. For example, in cabin air filter lines and gas mask filter lines feature different versions of our fully automatic cross cutter.
The cross cutter produces rectangular filter elements in a cabin air filter line and round filter elements in a gas mask filter line. As a matter of principle automatic production lines are throughput-oriented systems designed for the production of defined filter types in very high quantities. Depending on the complexity of the application, the production line can have a length of up to 30 m. Rabofsky manufactures all system components from a single source in well proven quality ”made in Germany”. In this way, only one single vendor is responsible for the operational capability of the entire production line when putting into operation.
Some of our customers' tasks are so special that they can´t be covered by our component system. As a vendor of special machines, we are also prepared to solve such tasks. Our standard pleating lines (e. g. a knife pleater of type Pleatmaster or Pleat Assistant with customary unwinder and cross cutter) have a delivery time of max. 8 weeks. Customized pleating systems may have a longer delivery time.
This also applies to our fully automatic production lines such as our cabin air filter or gas mask filter lines. For customized special machines there are usually other delivery times depending on whether the components are simple or complex, and how high are the intended number of units.
